Your WinZip free trial has expired? Try these solutions

  • WinZip is a leading software tool when it comes to data compression, encryption, backup, and sharing via the cloud.
  • While you can try it for free for 30 days, here’s what you can do once the trial expires.
  • For more help solving common software-related queries, visit our Fix page.
  • If you like learning about software in general, check out the articles from our Software section.

The problem with most good high-quality software is that you rarely ever find it for free, and even if you do, it’s probably open-source and very unstable because of the wide variety of contributors.

WinZip also falls under the category of high-quality software, and one testament to that is that you do indeed have to pay for it.

Fortunately enough, the software can be used over a period of 30 days for free, during which you have plenty of time to test out its functionality.

However, that begs the question: What should you do after the WinZip trial ends?

Since WinZip is so widely used around the world and pretty much everyone started off with the trial first, we decided to create this step-by-step guide to show you what you can do after WinZip’s trial expires.

What do I do if my WinZip trial has expired?

1. Purchase the full version of WinZip

The main reason why you applied for the 30-day WinZip trial is because of the incredible toolset that the program has.

However, you’ve probably tested that out yourself since you did have 30 days at your disposal, but did you manage to discover the full extent of WinZip’s capabilities?

Many users probably remember WinZip’s first iterations when it was just a simple archiving tool similar to WinRAR or 7-Zip.

This is no longer the case since now WinZip is much more than that:

  • It has expanded its list of supported file formats to include almost all user-grade compression formats, including one that is proprietary to WinZip.
  • More so, it now also includes banking-level encryption, allowing you to both compress and protect your data from unauthorized access.
  • The list of protective features also includes data backup capabilities, allowing you to create copies of even the largest files or folders.
  • The program now also features cloud service integration with some of the most popular cloud clients out there, including Google Drive and OneDrive.
  • Lastly, you can also use WinZip to organize your files better, since it has all the tools of a basic file manager as well.

With so many tools that you probably haven’t thought about using yet, continuing to use WinZip does indeed seem like the best course of action.

WinZip

If you’ve tested WinZIp for 30-days, then you know it is a software that is worth it!

2. Try an alternative to WinZip

Depending on what exactly you were looking for when you first started off using WinZip, there are several alternative tools that you can choose from.

If you were using WinZip for compressing and decompressing data, we recommend you try one of the following:

  • WinRAR
  • 7-Zip
  • NXPower Lite Desktop

For more similar products, check out this article for a list of the best file compression tools on the market.

If you were using WinZip for encrypting data, we recommend you try one of the following:

  • File Lock Pro
  • File Lock Lite
  • Privacy Drive

For more similar products, check out this article for a list of the best file encryption tools on the market.

If you were using WinZip for data backup, we recommend you also give one of the following a try:

  • Stellar Data Recovery
  • Acronis True Image
  • Paragon Backup & Recovery Advanced

For a complete list of the best data backup software available, as well as a description of each one’s pros and cons, check out this step-by-step guide.

Now you know what can be done after WinZip’s trial has expired, and it should be easier for you to make a decision based on the facts stated.

Let us know what solution did you choose by leaving us a message in the comments section below.

How to Fix It When There’s No Internet Connection

Troubleshooting Wi-Fi when there’s no connection

What to Know

  • When you have Wi-Fi but no internet connection, the problem usually lies in your devices rather than your internet service provider.
  • The most likely culprit is a router or modem. The quickest fix is to restart one or both.
  • If you still have no internet after restarting, you can try several other troubleshooting steps.

This article explains what to do when you have a strong wireless signal but no internet connection.

How to Fix It When You Have No Internet Connection

Follow these troubleshooting steps when you have Wi-Fi but no internet.

Reboot your router and modem. The first step in troubleshooting most tech problems, and especially networking hardware issues, is to restart. Rebooting the router and modem flushes the memory and resets background or lingering problems. You’ll need to log in to your router as admin.

Rebooting is different than resetting. Rebooting shuts down and then starts back up the router/modem.

How to Reset a Home Network Router

Verify that you’re connected to the correct network. Make sure your Wi-Fi device isn’t trying to reach a nearby network or a Wi-Fi repeater that isn’t fully set up, either of which could be having its own troubles that block your access. In these instances, even if Wi-Fi is on and connected, you might still not have working internet.

To verify this, open the Wi-Fi settings and check the network name you’re trying to connect to. If you don’t recognize it, it’s probably not your network.

Sometimes, however, Wi-Fi extenders use the same network name as your router. If you think this is happening, reset the Wi-Fi extender or temporarily unplug it to see if you get Wi-Fi apart from that device. If you do get internet, the problem rests with the extender, and you can troubleshoot from there.

Re-enter the wireless password. Some operating systems won’t warn you if you enter the wrong wireless password. Your laptop, tablet, or phone might show that you have a strong Wi-Fi signal, but if the password is incorrect, the router will refuse to communicate with your device.

If you’re using a public Wi-Fi hotspot, you might be using an old password that used to work but has since changed, which is usually the case when you are trying to connect to a network that you haven’t used in a long time.

Disconnect from your VPN. Along the same lines, if your device is connected to a VPN service, you might see a full Wi-Fi connection despite needing to resolve limited or no internet connectivity. Try a different VPN server or disconnect from the VPN to see if that fixes the problem.

Make sure you’re getting an IP address. You can be connected to a router with full bars but still have no internet access if the problem isn’t with your connection to the router but with your router’s connection to your Internet Service Provider (ISP).

When this happens, your router works on your network, but because it can’t reach the internet, it doesn’t have a valid public IP address, meaning you can’t send or request data over the internet.

Another reason you might not have a proper IP address is if your device is set up to use a static IP address but the router isn’t allowing that IP address on the network, something that can happen if you mix a static IP address with a DHCP network.

The easiest way to fix this issue is to leave DHCP enabled on the router and remove the static address from the device. For example, in Windows, you can do this in Control Panel by going into the network adapter’s properties and selecting Obtain an IP address automatically instead of the manual assignment option.

Open your browser. If you’re using a Wi-Fi hotspot, such as at a hotel or airport, you might think you can check your email or browse the internet once you have a solid wireless signal, but that’s usually not how most hotspots work.

When you launch your web browser, a hotspot page opens with basic information on what company is providing the hotspot and what to do next. Agree to the terms or enter the password the business gave you.

For example, some hotels make you enter a password into the hotspot page to gain access to hotel Wi-Fi, and airlines often charge for internet access.

Wait for the hotspot page to finish setting up your connection or redirect you to another page where you can access the web normally.

Try a different DNS server. If your device is connected to a DNS server that has corrupted data or is offline, even the strongest Wi-Fi signal is useless for giving you internet access.

Locate a different DNS server and change the DNS server settings on your device to see if the web pages finally load.

Check the MAC address filtering. Another reason you might be connected to Wi-Fi but not have internet access is if the router has MAC address filtering set up. This works by blocking devices from connecting to the router unless they have a specific MAC address.

So, while your device might have no problem showing that Wi-Fi is connected, any attempt to reach the internet or another network device is blocked.

Since this setup is usually seen only on business networks, your best bet to get around the MAC address filtering is to ask to have your MAC address added to the approved list.

Contact tech support. If none of these troubleshooting steps fixes the problem, you need tech support from your ISP, router manufacturer, or computer or smartphone maker.

By default, you’re prompted with a message that informs you about issues caused by the proxy server.

Even though you’re not using one. So, you’re stuck watching at your screen that was showing your favorite content just a second ago.

What to do except starting a dinosaur dash on Chrome or stare into an empty space on other browsers?

Luckily, there’s a way to address this issue and we prepared some of the probable solutions. If you have issues with the web browser and a ghost proxy server, make sure to check the list below.

Speaking of this issue, here are some similar problems reported by users:

  • There is something wrong with the proxy server or the address is incorrect Windows 10 – This issue can sometimes be caused by your proxy settings, and in order to fix it, you need to disable them in Windows.
  • Can’t connect to proxy server Windows 10 – This is a variation of this error, and if you encounter it, perhaps you should try using a VPN instead of a proxy.
  • Err_proxy_connection_failed Windows 10 – Sometimes you might get this error message in your browser. If that happens, reset the browser to the default or try switching to a different browser.
  • There is no internet connection Opera, Kaspersky, Chrome, VPN – This issue can be caused by your antivirus, and therefore it can affect any browser. To fix this problem, simply disable or uninstall the antivirus and the issue should be resolved.

1. Check Proxy settings

The simplest solution is to disable proxy and use automatic settings.

If you’re not knowingly using a proxy, it should be disabled by default. However, as we already mentioned above, sometimes the strange doings are at hand.

So, follow these instructions and you should resolve your problem in less than a minute:

  1. Right-click Start and open Control Panel.
  2. Open Network and Internet.
  3. Click Internet Options.
  4. In the Connections tab, click LAN Settings at the bottom.
  5. Uncheck the ”Use a proxy server for your LAN” box.
  6. Check the ”Automatically detect settings” box.
  7. Save changes and you should be good to go.

Instead of using a proxy, you might want to try using a VPN. VPN has many advantages over a proxy, and if you’re looking for a good and reliable VPN, you might want to try Private Internet Access from Kape Technologies.

They have over 12000 servers all over the world in over 70 different countries, so global repositioning will not be an issue.

Get instant access to geo-blocked content instantly, and don’t worry about limited bandwidth ever again with this amazing service.

Private Internet Access

A VPN is much better than using complicated proxies, and the best VPN on the market is by far Private Internet Access!

2. Check your antivirus

Having a good third-party antivirus is important if you want to protect your PC from online threats.

However, your antivirus can sometimes interfere with your browser and that can cause There is no internet connection, there is something wrong with the proxy server message to appear.

To fix this problem, try disabling certain features of your antivirus.

If that doesn’t work, you might have to disable your antivirus altogether. In the worst-case scenario, you might even have to temporarily uninstall your antivirus.

Even if you uninstall your antivirus, you don’t have to worry since Windows Defender will be there to provide at least some form of protection.

If removing the antivirus fixes your issue, it might be a good idea to switch to a different antivirus solution and check if that solves the problem.

There are many great third-party antivirus tools, but if you want maximum protection that won’t interfere with your system, we would have to recommend Bitdefender Antivirus Plus.

Unlike other less reliable antivirus tools, Bitdefender has always been a perfect example that you can blend security features with minimal system impact

In the case at hand, this translates into complete real-time protection, a highly effective firewall, and more, without the common drawbacks such as connectivity issues.

3. Remove any problematic or suspicious applications

Sometimes third-party applications can interfere with your system and cause There is no internet connection, there is something wrong with the proxy server message.

That isn’t exactly the solution or even the instigator of the problem most of the time, but it will ease further troubleshooting steps. Moreover, you can check alternative browsers for the same issue.

Have in mind that Firefox may work just fine since it can override Proxy settings. Since that’s not the case for Chrome and others, you’ll need to turn to manual approach and tweak settings yourself.

5. Tweak the registry

  1. Press Windows key + R to summon the elevated Run command line.
  2. In the command line, type regedit and open Registry Editor.
  3. Backup the registry by clicking Export under the File option.
  4. Navigate to this path:
    • HKEY_CURRENT_USERSoftwareMicrosoftWindowsCurrent VersionInternet settings

  5. Delete these four values:
    • Proxy Override
    • Migrate Proxy
    • Proxy Enable
    • Proxy Server
  6. Restart your PC and look for changes within a browser.

There are multiple ways to disable Windows features. The most used one is through the system’s interface.

However, if something can’t be resolved with the simple box unchecking procedure, the registry should be a next logical solution.

The same goes for ghost proxy that just won’t stop blocking your connection, and thus, cause the errors within the browser.

Albeit, have in mind to act with caution with the registry because errors can be costly.

6. Reset Google Chrome

  1. Click the Menu icon in the top-right corner and choose Settings from the menu.
  2. Scroll down to the bottom and click Advanced.
  3. Select Restoresettings to their original defaults.
  4. Click Reset settings button to confirm.

According to users, one cause for There is no internet connection, there is something wrong with the proxy server message might be your Chrome settings.

If you have this problem, it’s advised that you reset Google Chrome to default.

Keep in mind that this process will remove your cache and your extensions, so you might want to back up important data.

After resetting Chrome to the default, the issue should be resolved and everything will start working again.

7. Reinstall Chrome

If There is no internet connection, there is something wrong with the proxy server message keeps appearing, the issue might be related to your Chrome installation.

To fix the problem, you need to reinstall Chrome.

This is quite simple to do, but if you want to completely remove Chrome, we advise you to use an uninstaller software that we mentioned in a few solutions earlier.

Once you remove Chrome, reinstall it and check if that solves the problem. In addition to reinstalling Chrome, you might want to try the Beta or the Canary version.

The Beta version usually brings new fixes, and if you think that a bug in Chrome is causing the problem, feel free to try the Beta version.

On the other hand, the Canary version offers the latest fixes, but these fixes might not be fully tested, so you might encounter other issues.

8. Try a different web browser

If There is no internet connection, there is something wrong with the proxy server message keeps appearing in Chrome, you might want to check if the issue appears in other browsers such as Firefox or Edge.

Switching to a new browser can be hard, but you might want to consider this as a temporary solution, at least until you manage to fix the problem with Chrome.

That should relieve you of the error and let you use your browser in a seamless manner again.
